COLE Wassner - CaliforniA

Cole Wassner is an outstanding power hitter. He has hit balls as hard and as far as I’ve seen in the high school ranks.  Cole has hit some tape measure shots well over 400 ft. Cole also hits for high average.  He is very disciplined at the plate, draws a lot of walks and rarely strikes out.  When he does hit a ball right at someone it is often too hot to handle.  Now in his senior year, Cole recently turned age 17 and could actually be a junior.  This makes his hitting power even more impressive. More importantly, Cole Wassner is an outstanding person.  He is a very hard working, quiet, humble young man who lets his bat do his talking.  He is very polite and well behaved.  He gets along great with his teammates and coaches and is a pleasure to work with.  Along with his hitting power, he has proved to be an effective closer.  Last season, he threw in the mid-eighties.  His primary pitch is a nasty cut fastball.  As a closer, Cole has a strong arm and a short memory.  He has displayed physical and mental toughness in some tight situations. Cole is an excellent athlete and excels at football as well.  As a two-way starter on the line and also a kicker, Cole recently helped lead his team to a California Section Championship. I am looking forward to Cole’s participation in your Power Showcase and to his performance in the upcoming season.
Coach Rutledge, Quartz Hill High Rebels

"I am writing on behalf of Cole Wassner, a student athlete at Quartz Hill High School in Southern California.  Cole is an exceptional athlete playing both football and baseball at Quartz High.  He is a starter on both the offensive and defensive line as well as handling both the punting and kick-off duties for the 2008 CIF champion Rebels.  More importantly, he is also a humble young man with great character.  He has already shown a great propensity for overcoming adversity, which I personally think is the most
important skill a player needs to compete at the highest levels.

Cole has above average power as a hitter, recording some tape measure homeruns in his high school and legion programs this past season.   I recently featured him in an article for Collegiate Baseball regarding some of the top bat speed and ball exit speed producers in the country.  Cole has been recorded with as high as 97 MPH bat speed and 98 MPH ball exit speed off the tee with 100 MPH exit speeds off live pitching.  This puts him in the top 1% of exit speeds of all players tested to date around the country.  Along with high power numbers, he also led his team in batting average as well as
winning MVP honors this past season.

Cole is also an accomplished pitcher topping out at 87 MPH and averaging 84 MPH with his fastball and features a cut fastball and an above average change up.  Cole has spent time learning the same Effective Velocity concepts being implemented by many major leaguers and at major collegiate
programs including Vanderbilt, USC, University of Washington, University of Tennessee and many others around the country.  His fastball change up combination will be a featured video in one of the presentations at the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) convention in San Diego in January 2009.  Cole has also worked with Ron Wolforth at the Texas Baseball Ranch which has helped produce over 80 pitchers topping out at 90 MPH or more in the past five years.  With his persistence and work ethic, I project Cole to be one of the next to reach that pinnacle.

With his work ethic and fierce competitiveness, Cole will make a great representative for Southern California at the International High School Power Showcase.

Good luck to all the competitors.
